Nursery Schools
- Nursery schools are attended by children age 2 to usually 6 years old
- Starting from 1. 9. 2017 nursery school attendance is compulsory and free of charge for children in the year before starting to attend school (children who will turn 5 years old by 31. 8 of the given year)
- The deadline for preschool education application for the next school year is between May 2 and 16 of each year
- Preschool education application forms for the next school year are provided by the corresponding nursery school; they are also available at the schools’ websites
- The exact deadline is announced in advance by the Prague 17 District Authority and the nursery school headmistresses via announcements on the District Authority’s website and newspaper and on the nursery schools’ websites
- The nursery schools publish the criteria for admitting children on their websites
- In order to ensure an even use of the school capacity, the headmasters give priority to enrolling children living nearby (the so-called school district). In the case of nursery schools, the corresponding school district is the whole territory of the city district.
- If your child has been admitted for compulsory preschool attendance somewhere outside of the Prague 17 City District nursery schools (private institution not registered in the Ministry of Education Youth and Sports School Register, other city district, other municipality), please inform the Prague 17 City District Education and Culture Department in writing at Žalanského 291/12b, 163 02 Prague 6 - Řepy
- After the enrolment has been finished, the school headmaster issues a decision on admitting (not admitting) the child to the school
- The decision on not admitting the child can be appealed against within 15 days after receiving the decision. You can appeal through the Prague City Hall Education and Youth Department based at Jungmannova 29/35,111 21, Prague 1, phone: 236 001 111
Payments – the parents pay for:
- the payment established by the nursery school headmaster according to the Education Law and the Regulation no. 14/2005 Coll., on preschool education; the headmaster also provides information on the payment method and the possibility of decreasing or exemption of the payment
- meals (the cost of groceries)
There is no payment for children within their last year before attending the 1st year of elementary school.

Elementary Schools
- school attendance is compulsory for the period of nine school years, but no longer than by the end of the school year when the student reaches the age of seventeen
- admission for the 1st year of elementary school happens in April of each year (for children who reach the age of 6 during this year)
- a child who reaches the age of six within the period from the beginning of the school year till the end of the calendar year, can already be admitted for compulsory school attendance in this school year, if s/he is adequately mature physically and mentally and if the legal representative requests for that
- the enrolment date is announced by the City District and the elementary school headmaster on the websites, and in the City District newspaper
- for the enrolment, the legal representative has to present the child’s birth certificate or another equivalent document and his own ID card
- the school headmaster makes the decision on possible deferral of school attendance
- in order to ensure an even use of the school capacity, the headmasters give priority to enrolling children living nearby (the so-called school district) in case demand exceeds the capacity
- after the enrolment has been finished, the school headmaster issues a decision on admitting (not admitting) the child to the school
- possible appeals submitted within 15 days after receiving the decision are handled through schools by the Prague City Hall Education and Youth Department based in Jungmannova 29/35,111 21, Prague 1, phone: 236 001 111
- besides elementary education, elementary schools also provide for example extensive language teaching, physical training, work with the computer, etc. – additional information is provided by each elementary school
Payments
- the parents pay for the lunches in case the student attends the school cafeteria
- if the student attends the after school care or the school club, a payment fixed by the school headmaster according to the Education Law is collected
- the appeal authority for appealing against the headmaster’s decisions is the Prague City Hall Education and Youth Department based in Jungmannova 29/35,111 21, Prague 1, phone: 236 001 111
